Caged Light

The main inspiration for this project regarding the shape and interesting action came from my own childhood memories. Growing up in El Salvador my sister and I loved running around our backyard trying to find Dormilonas, a plant native of Central America. These small vines are known to "sleep" or contract when touched, a few minutes later they open again.

The desk lamp, is designed with a responsive system, making the opening and closing mechanism of a lighting structure triggered by motion or proximity controls. Developed with a metallic structure and mesh that compose two shell-like features around the light bulb. The wooden base conceals the electric components of the system.
